CULTURE AND LEISURE

OUR CITY

The city of Girona is located at the confluence of the rivers Ter and Onyar. Because of the strategic importance of its location, Girona has been besieged and destroyed several times over the centuries. Girona lives its maximum splendor in Roman times and in medieval times the city expands and becomes a great commercial point. The medieval complex and the old town of our city, make it one of the most important places in Catalonia.

In Girona today, there is also an important commercial activity, the most representative industrial estates around the city are those of Riudellots, Fornells, Mas Xirgu, Cassà and Celrà.

OUR ENVIRONMENT

Girona, a province of almost 6,000 square kilometers, has two great resources for tourism: ports and sunny beaches on one side and mountains on the other. The Costa Brava is one of the most important tourist spots: Cadaqués, Roses, Platja d’Aro, Lloret de Mar,…

But Girona does not only live from the sun and the sea. In the west of the province, the magnificent mountain landscapes and ski slopes make it an unbeatable place for winter sports. The sum of both factors, together with the incipient industry of the area in cities such as Girona itself or Figueras, make the province one of the richest in Spain.
